What are the school hours?

School begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. every day.

Does First Avenue Elementary serve breakfast and lunch?

Our cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch daily. Breakfast costs $1.75 per day and lunch costs $2.85 per day. Those who qualify may apply for free or reduced meals. Reduced breakfast costs $0.30, reduced lunch costs $0.40, milk $0.35.

What if my child must be absent from school?

When your child is absent, please call our office on the day of the absence to let us know why he or she is out. Please make sure your child obtains any missed work on his or her return to school. We allow one day for each day your child was absent plus one additional day for completing make-up work.

What if I must pick up my child during school hours?

We release students to a parent/legal guardian, designee, or authorized legal agent only. To pick up your child, you must first visit our office to sign the student out. We do not allow your child to walk home during school hours.

Can I visit my child’s classroom during school hours?

We encourage parents to visit the classroom, but we ask parents to make prior arrangements with the child’s teacher or with the principal. You must sign in at the front office before going to the classroom.

Can parents volunteer at the school?

We welcome and encourage volunteers at First Avenue Elementary. If you are interested in volunteering at our school, please contact our school office or speak with your child’s teacher. Please join us!

Does First Avenue Elementary provide bus transportation?

The district provides bus services for some of our students. To ensure a safe, comfortable ride to and from school, we ask that our students follow all bus rules. Students must stay seated and face forward. Students must use quiet talking voices, and keep hands, feet, and objects in the bus.

When do report cards come out?

We send report cards home every nine weeks, or we give them to parents at parent-teacher conferences. We also send out progress reports the 5th week of every quarter to give parents an indication of how their child is doing in school.

What should I know about immunization?

Arizona law requires parents to submit an immunization history for their child upon entering public school. Students who would be endangered by the vaccine or students whose religious views oppose immunization can be granted an exception to the school immunization requirement.

What are the guidelines for cell phones?

We do not permit students to use cell phones during school hours. We do allow students to bring cell phones to campus for use after school. Students must leave cell phones turned off in their back packs.

Is there a dress code at First Avenue Elementary?

Yes. At the June 2012 school board meeting, the Mammoth-San Manuel Governing Board members voted to change the school dress code. The changes affect all grade levels! Please view our new policy for the details.

Is there a PTO?

Currently, the PTO is inactive. We need you to help us get it started again! The PTO is involved in the school on a daily basis raising funds, providing student recognition, and giving our teachers help. If you are interested, please contact the office for more information.
